Description

The Artspeak course series provides instruction
for multilingual students in the linguistic and
cultural conventions of art school. As students
studying in the United States, English use is part
of your overall development as
artists/designers/practitioners. Therefore,
Artspeak classes have two purposes: 1) to work
with the English you already know to develop
focused strategies so that you can work
efficiently and effectively with in
art/design/performance contexts and 2) to add new
knowledge to your English language use. Like
Artspeak 1, Artspeak 2 is an integrated,
four-skill, (reading, writing, listening,
speaking) English for Academic Purposes course
designed for students with at least an
intermediate proficiency level in English.
Artspeak 2 continues the work of Artspeak 1 by
focusing more specifically on reading-writing
connections, which are typical of the Level-100
course series-Introduction to Critical Studies and
Special Topics-that you will take in their BFA2
year. You will develop you English-language
academic skills for the arts in including reading
critically and strategically, writing from
sources, and developing choice and control in
written voice. Artspeak 2 provides Critical
Studies units for graduation.
