Description
This class will look at the photography as a
record of perpetual performance and/or arrangement
of the body. Specifically, we will explore works
that are meant to exist, and/or continue to exist
as an image, a referent to the action which is no
longer there. We will look at the politics of
visibility and the use of the photograph as a form
that speaks to accessibility, persistence, and who
gets to be visible and therefore remembered.
Focusing on contemporary artists from diverse
perspectives using the camera as an act of
resistance, we will examine the intersection of
the self, the body, the camera, and their
potential to reclaim narratives and space.
