Description
This upper-level seminar explores the art world through the lens of interviews and professional practice. Students will engage in conversations with curators, gallerists, artists, and filmmakers, gaining insight into the many roles that shape contemporary art. The course includes field visits to production houses in Los Angeles--such as framers and labs--to understand how artwork is realized and circulated beyond the institute. We will address practical considerations in exhibition-making, including budgeting, contracts, and planning. Students will also develop interview skills: researching subjects, conducting thoughtful conversations, and transforming these into polished written or recorded pieces.
