LA Urbanscape: Image, Words & Acts. This course
will explore the interrelation
between various social, cultural, economic
aspects of daily life in 21st Century Los Angeles
as its infrastructure balances atop the
physical/political fault lines that point to
assured tremors: Freeways, mirages, smog,
rumors, invisible populations, celebrity, public
surveillance, random inaccessibility to places,
people, and things. The role of the artist in
exploring ephemeral acts against the urbanscape's
vastness will be investigated via readings,
walking tours, as well as through the creation of
on-site photographic, written, and performative
works.
