Description
This workshop will focus on the manual elements of
book binding. Students will be able to utilize the
CalArts print lab and the resources it has to
offer. Students can expect to learn how to fold
and sew signatures of a book, saddle stitch with
staples, and perfect bind. Students will also be
able to explore different methods of bookmaking,
such as stab binding and coptic binding through
smaller demos and exercises depending on interest.
The workshop will introduce basic elements of
binding at the beginning of the semester as well
as help student's make their own projects at the
end of the semester. The workshop will meet every
other week (7 total meetings) throughout the
semester.
