School(s)
Academic Level

Description
We don't make art alone - even though we are or
often feel, alone in our thoughts, studios, ideas,
or visions. This group course considers how we
might reconsider notions of mutuality,
collaboration, and collegiality alongside our art
making.
Experimenting with the critique seminar format and
inspired by the book by
author/lawyer/trans-activist/organizer, Dean
Spade: "No Masters, No Flakes," we read with
mutual aid group experience to think about and
support the work we wish to make with and for
others - including exploring themes of belonging
in and out of the art-making community.
This class aims to explore ways to communicate and
receive support in one's pursuit of artmaking by
communicating with sensitivity and awareness of
self and others' and allows for opportunities to
deepen our own perspectives, perceptual abilities,
awareness, and sensitivity through our work as
contributing artists in the midst of a complex and
fast-shifting world.
