Description

This class will be a collaboration across three
art schools, CalArts, HDK Hamburg, and KABK The
Hague, and will an attempt to create community
through both digital and material means, framed
through a reconsideration of Mail Art. Mail Art
flourished in the 1960s and 70s, before budget
airlines made it possible to visit other countries
and continents cheaply and easily. It was an
economic way for artists to make long distance
connections and create artworks that were both
ephemeral and immediate. After more than two years
of social isolation, it is possible to travel
again, but prices are rising, and not everybody
feels safe. What if we were to reconsider the
possibilities of the international postal system.
