Description
BFA1 Art Program students will be pre-enrolled in
this class.
In order to have a better understanding of the
work you make and how that work interacts with
culture, it is important to begin to grapple with
the relationship between your art and art
history, the divide between the type of work you
now make and the art practice you wish to build,
and your awareness of the variety of contemporary
art practices. In this course you will wrestle
with these and other ideas as you begin your
course of study in the Art Program. This course
includes lectures, discussions, readings,
critiques, in-class projects, and an expectation
that you will produce artwork that reflects your
interests and ideas. Introduction to the
program's labs (production facilities), course
advisement, and field trips are also part of the
course curriculum. In short, this 2-part course
sequence is an introduction to the Art Program -
both as a practical primer to help you navigate
the Institute and a conceptual introduction as to
how artwork is produced, analyzed and critiqued
in a myriad of ways.
AART-102 is offered in the Spring Semester.
