Description
In this workshop we'll make cut and fold, two-player board games. We'll start by playing games together, observing what their play can mean and evoke, while considering key principles of game design. Throughout the rest of the workshop we will work in pairs to make our board games, writing game rules that facilitate meaningful play and express an experience or point of view. Using familiar tools for layout, illustration, and graphic design, we'll make, print, and assemble paper boards and game pieces that facilitate gameplay and express the game's themes. Finally we'll playtest each other's games as a group.
Experience with layout, illustration, and typesetting in Adobe InDesign or Illustrator preferred, but not needed. Willingness to play required. No prior game design knowledge or game making experience needed. The game critical, game skeptical, or game curious are all encouraged. Attendance at all sessions required.
