Description

Transforming Reality: From 3D Scan to AR is a workshop class designed for artists who want to explore the potential of 3D scanning in their art-making practice. In this class, students will learn how to take physical objects and transform them into digital assets that can be used in augmented reality environments.
The class will cover two methods of 3D scanning: portable 3D scanning and photogrammetry 3D capture using Adobe Substance Sampler. Students will learn how to optimize the resulting .obj file for further processing with Zbrush. This includes cleaning up the mesh, filling in gaps, smoothing out rough edges, and reducing the polygon counts. Once the mesh is optimized, students will move on to digital painting techniques using Adobe Substance Painter. They will learn how to modify the texture of the mesh and create custom textures that can be applied to the digital asset.
The final part of the class will cover how to export the painted mesh to an AR environment with Reality Composer. Students will learn how to use AR software to create immersive experiences that showcase their 3D assets in the real world.
By the end of the class, students will have a solid understanding of how to use 3D scanning, digital painting, and AR exporting techniques to create unique and engaging art pieces.
