What this course is about:
1.A fluid and hybrid form produced by interplay
between other fields; art, science, graphic and
product design, architecture, music, politics and
mass media.
2.Clothing that lays down a challenge to accepted
norms.
3.Clothing, garments and body coverings that
deliberately cross disciplines and cultural
boundaries emerging from collaborations between
individuals working in different contexts.
What this course is not about:
1.haute couture
2.a coven of tastemakers
3.the elite world of high fashion.
4.marketing and fickle trends
5.shock and awe tactics
6.the gaze
Who puts fashion in the world? designers, artists
, activists, inventors, performers, manufacturers,
ordinary people.
We will focus on street wear, utility clothing,
masks and disguises and finally dress codes: the
language of clothing and the ways fashion is used
to transmit signals.
Students should be prepared to purchase unusual
items for fabrication depending on the extent of
the project Estimated cost between $50.00- $100.00
