Topics in Performance Studies: Mic Use for
Vocalists

A course for vocalists that focuses on microphone
technique and effective use of
sound-reinforcement equipment. Topics include an
overview of the PA system, types of microphones,
distance and placement of the microphone, how to
EQ individual vocal channels, how to sound-check,
adding effects, use of monitors, and how to
communicate with the sound engineer. Students
will perform weekly with different microphones.
Discussion and critique follow each performance
and students are expected to participate.

Special Topics courses offer in-depth treatments
of topics in their subject area, and are offered
on a one-time or trial basis.
