The Music of Henry Threadgill

By dividing Threadgill's music into four distinct
periods, we will deconstruct its many points of
influence; areas such as military marches,
calypso, ragtime, and European expressionist art
music. This course will aim to demonstrate how
while these stylistic points of influences appear
to be eclectic, Threadgill's music is a
quintessential example of what it means to be an
all-encompassing American composer. Sessions will
involve listening, examine scores, and guest
lectures.
