What Is a Song?

An international survey of songwriting from
ancient times (classical Greece, the Tang and Song
dynasties, etc.), but with an emphasis on the
repertoire of the last seventy years. The course
examines in detail a wide range of songs: musical
compositions that align words and music to tell a
story, create a series of poetic images or for
purposes more obscure.
