Description

In this seminar we will learn about and explore non-linear creative systems for composition and performance with the Experimental Sound Studio serving as our exploratory vessel. A mixture of group discussion, lecture, and in-class presentations will help us create systems that combine fixed composition with improvisational techniques. Students will have an opportunity to learn fundamentals of modular synthesis, strategies for combining acoustic with electronic elements, and develop multi-channel works. Expect to spend time in the Experimental Sound Studio to develop your own voice and style a final work that will combine our semester of investigations. No previous synth experience is necessary.

Recommended but not required requisite courses:
Fundamentals of Computer Music (MSCM-150) and
Composition with Max/MSP (MCMP-465/665)
