Description

Arranging is a "secret sauce" between composition and performance. It is a design involving style, sound, technique, and feeling. Arrangers have been somewhat mercurial figures who emerged from the jazz age, and who adapted to the possibilities and techniques of studio recording. Arranging is sometimes conceived of as merely functional, technical and pragmatic. But as we will see in practice, there are many creative possibilities here. Our guiding question will be: how may the hidden role of the arranger be inhabited for subversive or experimental means?
