Description
This class investigates the possibilities
available to artists in Los Angeles using service
providers. From printers and framers, to
photo-mural installers, to fabricators, foundries,
wall-text specialists, and many more, there is a
whole industry that has developed in the city to
support its artists. Through field trips,
interviews, and visiting lectures, we will explore
this world of small businesses. Beyond learning
of the options these businesses create for
artists, students will also learn about the nuts
and bolts of starting your own business and about
possible jobs they might get in the artistic
support industry. A final collaborative project
will employ one or more of the businesses we
visit.
All classes will take place in the greater Los
Angeles. Local travel is required.
